What does love have to do with our well-being?

  1. "Awareness is the first step in healing, for individuals as well as society. Sometimes the brain needs to be satisfied before the heart begins to open. For many researchers, "love" might as well be a four-letter word, and "an open heart" is what happens during coronary bypass surgery. Instead, scientists tend to use such other terms as social support, intimacy, hostility, depression, anger, cynicism, and so on."

" When you feel loved, nurtured, cared for, supported, and intimate, you are much more likely to be happier and healthier. You have a much lower risk of getting sick and, if you do, a much greater chance of surviving."

We all seek to love and be loved.  This is an excellent resource to find your own truth about love.

  1. "Some things that are hard are worth doing. For example, my program of comprehensive lifestyle changes is not easy. But it works for many people. I'd like to be able to say that cheeseburgers are good for you, but they're not. It's so much easier just to take a pill, but the benefits are more limited and short-term. Similarly, religion often asks a lot of us. At the time of the Golden Calf, many people asked Moses, "Why should I do all this stuff? Why do we need the Ten Commandments? Wouldn't three or four do? Why should we have any limitations?...

If intimacy issues are a concern for you, this is a fine book to use for guidance and resolution.

Why are many people losing interest in organized religion?

Studies on religion and it's meaning to people have become popular as society evolves into one that is vastly different than when this was the societal "norm".

  1. Dr. Dean Ornish Answered:
"One reason many people are losing interest in organized religion may be because it often gets so caught in the form and the ritual while losing the spiritual essence that's most meaningful: the awareness of the underlying spirit that connects us."

Is experiencing God a part of most religious and spiritual traditions?

This brilliant answer by Dr. Dean Ornish to the question posed above, offers great encouragement to those who feel bereft of personal meaning especially during times of great stress and chaos as we are enduring now on this planet and in our personal lives when faced with challenges that confound us.

  1. "Most spiritual and religious traditions are based on people who experienced God directly: Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, to name only a few. They did not find God somewhere outside themselves; they realized that we only appear to be separated from God. Their message was that the experience of God, of interconnectedness, of peace, is available to everyone via prayer, meditation, service, compassion, and so on. Like peace, joy, and well-being, God is not something we attain from "out there" somewhere; we realize that God is in us as us".

"When understood in this context, the realization of God, of our Self by any other name, is perhaps the ultimate healing experience because then we understand that we are already whole..."

I couldn't agree more with Dr. Ornish's teachings.   These concepts bring great peace of mind and the book is a goldmine of truths that apply to all of us, no matter what spiritual or religious orientation we
    adhere to.  Beautiful.
