Why should I follow the more difficult path to healing?

Dr. Dean Ornish is a pioneer"voice"  in the field of self help for health and well being.  In his new book, Love and Survival: 8 Pathways to Intimacy and Health, he offers many wonderful suggestions to reclaiming intimacy and health in your life.

  1. "Some things that are hard are worth doing. For example, my program of comprehensive lifestyle changes is not easy. But it works for many people. I'd like to be able to say that cheeseburgers are good for you, but they're not. It's so much easier just to take a pill, but the benefits are more limited and short-term. Similarly, religion often asks a lot of us. At the time of the Golden Calf, many people asked Moses, "Why should I do all this stuff? Why do we need the Ten Commandments? Wouldn't three or four do? Why should we have any limitations?...

If intimacy issues are a concern for you, this is a fine book to use for guidance and resolution.

Eat, Pray, Love, Rinse, Repeat

A sprightly article from the New York Times about Luca Spaghetti's new memoir written around the vastly popular book Eat, Pray, Love.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/15/magazine/a-memoir-of-a-cameo-in-eat-pray-love.html?_r=1

"The truly special thing about “Eat, Pray, Love” is not its humor or its wisdom or its perky invocation of exotic local color — all of which are real, and often enjoyable. It’s that it is a completely inescapable vortex of recursion: a self-generating, self-sustaining, self-replicating machine of perpetual self-reference. It feels practically avant-garde in its determination to pull itself out of its own belly button".

Fans of Elizabeth Gilbert's book will enjoy this amusingly caustic commentary, a bit enigmatic at times which makes it compelling in it's own way.

Shania Twain: I lost my voice from stress caused by ex-husband's affair with my best friend

I have long admired Shania Twain for her voice, beauty and courage.    As she bares her soul, she also reinforces the power of love to overcome wrenching adversity.

"Being betrayed is one of the most valuable lessons life can teach," she tells the magazine. "Now that you are wise to the game, you have the tools to choose your friends more carefully and protect your inner circle from these predators."

"I got so physically constricted that I couldn't get any volume out at all," she says. "I realized I couldn't live without singing and had to do something about it ... I was like, 'Just get it all out right now. Clean the pipes.' "

Shania has definitely cleaned her pipes in this revealing story.  Her pain is palpable and her new love soaring.   I wish her only love and great happiness for the rest of her life.

A day to test my mettle, and learn a lesson on the meaning of integrity

Originally published April 14, 2011

The headline for this blog may be found found in one word: LOVE. It is the energy that drives all of us to find complement with another of like heart and mind and to find that “sweet spot” in our lives.

Today, I was tested on how to forgive insult and belittling and found myself pondering what I learned about integrity through being the recipient of deliberate hurt. I wondered how this test upon my ability to “practice what I preach”, unconditional love, would unfold.  During that time of reflection, I was invited to become a friend on Facebook to a really brilliant young man with whom I am having a fascinating dialog on Love and Christ Consciousness, a topic that never grows old.

What does that reverent term mean to me, for example? First of all, I feel heartened, grateful for the strength that comes from listening to what my Soul is telling me.  When I truly connect, emotions arise and tears flow to cleanse away the past and move on.

Staying true to myself was my journey today, remaining mindful of the golden alchemy of Integrity.  Think of it as your own personal, ongoing "fountain of light". Integrity is one of those “keywords” treasured for life. Finding it in others is what we all hope for; celebrate when we do.  It is a special language recognized soul to soul.

Another quality of the Christ Consciousness is Gratitude.  The heart pounding blast of energy exchange in “Divine Conjunctio” or Union with the Divine. That mind blowing moment when you receive and acknowledge spiritual intervention in your life.  You bow your head, wipe tears from your eyes, feel your heart lighten up, as you send up a big ole “thank you so much, I am grateful” cosmic thumbs up! for your blessing.

Miracles do happen. Heartfelt prayers in any language work best. God is listening. Pay attention to the cues and open to receive.

Forgiveness. Essential as both antidote to pain, and as a healer.   One of the most rewarding, yet challenging, qualities of all.  Grace.  Whether it is part of your religion, or that of another, these three principles explored here serve to guide one toward wholeness.  A catalyst for loving oneself and others.

Powerful energies that cross cultures, religions, beliefs.

Keywords for the Soul:  Integrity, Gratitude, Forgiveness.

Followed by relief.
